Being an inspirational poet and writer of poems for weddings and other special occasions, I came across this wedding poem that was written specifically for a couple who were about to move far away from their home and begin their life together. I think it is a wonderful poem that gives meaning to the union of two loving souls that come together to share a lifetime. Sometimes they will live close to loving family and friends but often it means moving a distance away.
Besides my own wedding poem, this poem reminded me of a story in verse that I wrote which was based on a true event. The poem that I call Home, is about a couple who are just beginning married life together. But he is in the military and about to be deployed to a distant land. During these times, the wife has the option to join him and she does. But in this desolate and primitive place where she and her husband share a hut, she finds it unbearable to be among people who speak a different language and are part of a culture that she can’t understand or appreciate. What she eventually learns is that “She can be a prisoner behind steal bars, or choose to see between the lines and gaze upon the stars.” This shift in her paradigm changes her life as she ultimately discovers that “Wherever her heart will be, she’ll always find her home.”

One of my best friends recently married and is moving to Switzerland with her new Swiss husband. She will be moving to a country where she knows no one and does not speak the language. She asked me to write a poem to read during the wedding ceremony and since they are moving away I focused on the idea of home.
